Different Hair Extension Types Covered

Although it varies from course to course, the following methods are fairly common and often used throughout London and the rest of the world.

The pre-bonded hot fusion method for applying extensions has you start with U tip hair, and using a keratin nail tip, which you melt using a heat clamp, attach the extension to the client’s natural hair. It’s then wrapped around the client’s hair and safely fuses to it. This creates a strong bond that must be chemically removed. An application of removal solution is required, and then the bond has to be crushed before the extension can be pulled out.

A cold fusion method is also offered, which uses ultrasonic waves. It’s gaining popularity, but still not offered widely. Cold fusion also uses U tip hair, but an ultrasonic cold fusion machine softens the bonds using ultrasonic pulses instead of heat. It can then be wrapped into the client’s hair and is sealed with an ultrasonic connector.

Shrink tubes are small tubes that the client’s hair is drawn through, then the extension is inserted into it and heat is applied to melt the tube. The tube shrinks and fuses to both the extension and the natural hair.

Micro ring application can be used for both hair extension application as well as weft application. Many times, hair extension and weft application are covered in separate courses, as weft application requires different upkeep and placement considerations. Micro ring application is an easy way to apply wefts and can give clients a cost-effective solution. This application method involves no heat, chemicals or glue and is therefore pretty popular, particularly for people new to hair extensions. The micro ring is a tiny silicone ring that is first attached to the extension, and then pulled through the client’s hair. It will be pinched closed; which will keep it in place and prevent unwanted movement. Removal for micro ring applications is quite simple. A pair of removal pliers is used to open the rings and allows the extension to be pulled out.

Nano rings are also available. Nano ring hair extension application is similar to micro ring application. Nano rings are 90 per cent smaller than micro rings, and therefore require additional skill for both application and removal. Nano rings still don’t require any heat or chemicals for application and removal, however.
