‘THINK OUTSIDE THE BOTOX!”
No doubt you are familiar with which celebrities have got that ‘frozen’ look as they have aged in attempts to recapture their youth and stay relevant. But are you fully in the know about the procedure??

So what actually is ‘Botox’?
Well first things first, lets get the science bit out of the way.
‘Botox’ is short for “Botulinum toxin”, (are you ready for this?) “prevents the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine from axon endings at the neuromuscular junction and thus causes flaccid paralysis”. Well, at least that’s what Wikipedia says!
Basically it is a substance, which once injected into the skin, relaxes the muscles and therefore helps to prevent the appearance of wrinkles and lines. That better?
Isn’t it for old people?
Not really.
Let’s be honest, if you’ve been partying, binge drinking or even just staying up late to binge on Netflix, chances are it is beginning to catch up with you, even before your mid to late 20’s. Sound familiar? If so, the appearance of wrinkles and lines may not be such a far and distant concept for you. That’s why treatments such as Botox have become more popular for the young and ‘wannabe’ beautiful.
How does it work?
Botox is given by using a needle to inject into the forehead area. It works by blocking the nerves that make facial muscles move.
It takes sound 3 to 5 days to start seeing the results.
Does it hurt?
Given that it involves pushing a needle straight into your forehead, it’s probably fair to say that you might feel more than a little ‘sting’! Temporary bruising and headaches are not uncommon either.
What are the risks/side effects?

The procedure is considered quite safe, but there are temporary side effects. We say ‘temporary’ because the substance only stays inside the body for 6 months. Risks include headaches, bruising and some pain where the injection has been placed. Some people do get drooping eye lids.
You may also experience sickness and flu symptoms, facial pain, double vision and not to mention looking like you cannot smile (not great if your first date is trying their best joke to crack the ice)!
Hmm, I’m not sure. Are there alternatives?
Yes.
The great news for those who fear needles (or just like to be able to smile!) there is another option – the HYALRON PEN.
The Hyaluronic Pen administers dermal filler without using a needle. It tops the body up with Hyaluronic Acid – a natural acid that the body uses to keep the skin hydrated and therefore looking full and firm. Because the body produces less of this as we get older, the pen is the perfect remedy for those who want to get rid of those fine lines and wrinkles.
There are no painful side effects and the risk of any allergic reaction is eliminated because it involves using a substance that the body already produces.
So, if you want an alternative to Botox – THE PEN IS YOUR FRIEND!
